Jennifer Spitzer (formerly Gorovitz) is Vice President for Finance, Operations and Administration of the New Israel Fund, and founding Director of the Progressive Jewish Fund. Spitzer came to NIF in 2015 from the national law firm of Manatt, Phelps and Phillips. Previously, Jennifer was the CEO of the San Francisco-based Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund, having first served in a number of management roles there. Spitzer was the first woman CEO of a major North American Federation. During her nearly five years as CEO, Spitzer was recognized in The Forward’s “Forward 50” list of influential leaders and was selected as one of the Bay Area’s “Most Influential Women” by the San Francisco Business Times.

Jennifer sits on the board of directors of Camp Tawonga and is a past co-chair of the board of Urban Adamah. In 2015, she was recognized by Death Penalty Focus for her pro bono efforts, and in 2014 was the recipient of the Landres Courage for Dignity Award by Keshet for her work with the LGBTQ Jewish community. She is an alumna of the Wexner Heritage Program.

Jennifer practiced law from 1991 – 2000 as well, clerking for the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and serving as a deputy public defender for Santa Clara County, California, as well as representing nonprofit organizations and corporations in civil litigation matters. Jennifer received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A. from Stanford University.
