The Path of Progress
For those of us committed to progressive values — democracy, justice, inclusion — in Israel and around the world, the events of the past year have been incredibly troubling. It’s easy to feel nothing other than fear and despair as we move into the new year. But my work in support of NIF reminds me that, despite the challenges, we are making progress in the long term.
New Israel Fund Names New Executive Director in Israel: Mickey Gitzin
Today, NIF named Mickey Gitzin as its new executive director in Israel. Gitzin will replace Rachel Liel, who steps down after eight years as the executive director of NIF in Israel. Liel will stay on as a member of NIF’s board.

I’m just back from a rather incredible week in Israel. This year, our Jerusalem Board meeting took place against the backdrop of both an election campaign and an extraordinary show of support for Israel’s often-battered, much-challenged liberal democratic tradition.

On Sunday, I went down to Soroka hospital in Be’er Sheva and met with families of Bedouin Israelis whose children have been injured by rocket attacks. It was important for me to go, to support these families, to let them know that despite the tensions between Jews and Arabs in Israel today, that there are many of us committed to building a shared future.
