New Israel Fund Welcomes Global Recognition of a Palestinian State as a Step Toward Peace, Security, and Justice

In light of the announcements by the UN, the U.K., Canada, Australia, and others recognizing a Palestinian State, NIF CEO Daniel Sokatch released the following statement:

Hope for a peaceful, shared future for Israelis and Palestinians lies in honoring the right to self-determination of both peoples, as well as the recognition that they must live together on this land. The declaration by the UN, and powerful states like the U.K and Canada—some of Israel’s closest allies—aligns with this vision, and we at NIF—who have long supported a two-state solution—welcome it.

This step will not by itself resolve final-status issues, end the Gaza war and the suffering of millions of Palestinians there, or end the occupation of the West Bank. But it provides a political horizon that strengthens moderates, weakens extremists, and offers hope for peace, security, and a resolution of the conflict through the establishment of a two-state solution. Ending the war, releasing the hostages, and building a future rooted in peace, justice, and equality is both a moral duty and a strategic necessity.
