Achvat Amim’s Summer Solidarity Cohort
Co-sponsored by the New Israel Fund
Dates: July 1, 2025 – August 9, 2025
Application Deadline: May 1, 2025
The Program:
Summer of Solidarity is an opportunity to spend six weeks this summer in Israel/Palestine working directly with Palestinians and Israelis in the movement for justice and liberation. As a cohort, participants will explore questions of Jewish culture, identity, and activism as well as develop critical frameworks for understanding power, change-making, and movement-building. We will directly participate in solidarity work together on the ground designed to strengthen shared society, build relationships, and develop skills.
After the program, when participants return home, they will work with the NIF Young Leadership & Education Manager to bring back the lessons learned in Israel/Palestine and help educate their local communities.
A taste of some learning days:
- Zionism and Diasporaism: Home in the Jewish Imagination
- Narrative, Nationalism, and Nakba: Palestinian Identity formation
- Environmental Racism, Food Systems, and Justice
- Policing, Law Enforcement, and the Deadly Exchange
- Hebron Tour with Breaking the Silence
- Queerness, Gender, & Feminism
Solidarity Work:
Achvat Amim and NIF have deep, longstanding partnerships with a wide range of human rights and educational organizations as well as leading Israeli and Palestinian activists. We believe that a strong movement and a commitment to our progressive values requires nimble adaptation to the circumstances and a diverse array of activities. As such, the exact project(s) our summer program will engage in will depend on the needs of our partners and the skills of our participants. Examples of possible projects include: restoring a well in the South Hebron Hills, working at a summer camp for Israeli and Palestinian children, supporting local women harvesting honey. Over the course of the summer, participants will engage in one or two projects multiple times a week, allowing them to deepen their understanding and relationships with the leaders and community members running these projects on the ground.
Some potential placement opportunities can include:
- Teaching storytelling and English skills in the South Hebron Hills
- Agricultural work with Tent of Nations
- Rescuing and re-distributing food with Jerusalem Food Rescuers
- Teaching English afterschool at Beit Safafa Community Center
Tracks:
Participants will have the opportunity to choose between intensive language study (Hebrew or Arabic) or intensive Jewish text study
