POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Associate Regional Director will be a key member of NIF’s Bay Area team, responsible for building relationships with and stewarding current and prospective NIF donors, planning and staffing events, careful tracking and organizing of data, and working as part of a team. This role requires excellent communication skills (written and oral) and judgment, passion for the work of NIF, strong organization and follow-through, openness and humility, and superb event organizing abilities. The Associate Director will be responsible for a donor portfolio of 200+ as well as growing a list of prospects; they are expected to do significant outreach throughout the year, set individual meetings, maintain clear, detailed records, plan public events and small salons, and think strategically. They will play a major, substantive role in the planning and implementation of our signature annual fundraiser – the Guardian of Democracy Gala. Working directly under the supervision of the Senior Regional Director/Deputy Vice President, this position will serve as a critical part of the team working to nurture and grow our vibrant community of NIF supporters in the Bay Area and Northern California.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising
- Cultivate, solicit, thank, and steward a file of donors and prospects
- Initiate and schedule donor meetings, calls, and follow-up communications
- Draft, edit, and personalize donor communications, event invitations, and stewardship materials
- Support the Senior Regional Director with fundraising and tracking annual gala contributions
- Maintain updated and accurate information for donors and prospects; track donor communications and work performed via CRM software (Raiser’s Edge)
- Finalize proposals and reports for higher level donors, foundations, and prospects in collaboration with the Senior Regional Director and the Grants Editor & Coordinator
- Draft and/or edit online communications and event invitations for Bay Area region
- Support Senior Regional Director in regional planning and strategizing
- Support Senior Regional Director in working with the Regional Council (NIF’s Bay Area advisory council)
- Maintain a high level of knowledge and understanding about current events related to Israel and NIF’s work
Events
- Partner with the Senior Regional Director in planning and implementing parlor meetings and public events around the region
- Communicate with and support event hosts in planning and executing events
- Coordinate with NIF visiting grantees and other visiting speakers in collaboration with NIF’s Public Engagement department in preparation for events
- Support the planning and production of the annual Guardian of Democracy Gala: work with vendors, maintain the production schedule, help in developing and producing the event program, and manage digital and printed materials.
- Compose invitations, event landing pages, and other outreach materials to communicate critical information for guests and prospective attendees
- Represent NIF in the community; this includes potentially speaking publicly on behalf of NIF
- Maintain and grow relationships with partner organizations and synagogues in the community
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of professional experience in development, events, or community
engagement (nonprofit experience strongly preferred) - Prior work experience in the nonprofit sector strongly preferred
- Strong communications skills (verbal and written), including warmth, clarity, and ability to express compassion and empathy
- Resilient and able to perform under pressure
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Tremendous discretion and good judgment
- Experience planning and executing both small and large scale events
- Familiarity with political and social realities at play in Israel-Palestine and the related global dynamics
- Enthusiasm to serve as a regional ambassador for the New Israel Fund
- Comfort with CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge, Every Action, etc.) and proficiency with Google Workspace (especially Sheets and Docs – a must).
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years experience minimum, or equivalent professional experience
SALARY AND COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $95,000 – $105,000 depending on experience. NIF offers a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance; short-term and long-term disability; dependent coverage; flex spending; retirement match; vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays (Jewish and secular).
